How to Join and Rules

Joining

There are two ways to join. First, show up to one of our meetings and get added. Second, you can be invited by a current member.

Rules

We have a few rules at NoVA Hackers but they are pretty simple to follow:

1. Participation: Presenting is the surest way to provide this participation but other accepted forms of participation are activity on the mailing list or Slack, volunteering for staff positions at ShmooCon Epilogue.
   
   
2. Chatham House Rules: "When a meeting, or part thereof, is held under the Chatham House Rule, participants are free to use the information received, but neither the identity nor the affiliation of the speaker(s), nor that of any other participant, may be revealed."
   One amendment to this base rule that NoVA Hackers utilizes is that the no photos, social media or other content can be created directly from the information given at the meetings without the express consent of the speaker or information giver.
   
   
3. Respect: all members will respect each other. No derogatory, inflammatory or otherwise negative communications will be tolerated. Period.
   
   
4. No Pitches: Vendor, sales, or recruiting pitches are not allowed. We have made concessions to this rule for ShmooCon Epilogue sponsors but uphold it strictly at meetings
